The first month
During the first month of treatment, you will have lab tests with every treatment and you'll receive each dose of INTRON® A by an "infusion." The medicine drips slowly from a bag into a tube and then into a needle in your arm. This usually lasts 20-30 minutes.
During this month, you may begin to experience side effects of treatment and you and your health care team can work together to see:

The next phase
After the first month, you will only need three regular injections of INTRON® A (not infusions) each week. You and your doctor will decide if injecting INTRON® A at home is right for you.
If home injection is best for you, you will receive training - usually from a nurse. You will learn every step of the process, including how to dispose of needles safely. Often, people ask a trusted friend or family member to receive injection training also. This person can help and support you with injections, or do the injections for you. Over time, doing your injections at home usually becomes routine.
Refrigerating INTRON® A
INTRON® A must be stored in the refrigerator in order to keep it from losing its effectiveness. If you are traveling and do not have access to a refrigerator, you can use an insulated bag with an ice pack to store INTRON® A. Always keep syringes, needles, and medications of all kinds away from children.
