Work-related Issues

You have rights AND responsibilities

Some people are able to work during part or most of their treatment with INTRON® A. Others have to make major changes in their work life. Still others may depend on a working spouse or partner and that person's work life may be affected by household needs during treatment.

It's impossible to know in advance how any one person will feel during treatment and what he or she will be able to do. The demands of different jobs are also important. Think about a long-distance truck driver versus a person who makes telemarketing calls from home.

Important steps you can take in advance are:

• Talk to your health care team about your work life and the effects of treatment
• Find out the policies about sick leave, personal leave, and flexible hours from your employer (or your partner's)
• Know your legal rights
• Think about how to explain melanoma and its treatment to coworkers and supervisors
