Support: Groups and Professionals

Understanding, wisdom, strength

Many times, people living with cancer feel lonely or distant from others. It may happen because friends and family pull away, uncertain what to say or how to act. It may happen because you don't feel well enough to do the things you normally do with family and friends. Perhaps you don't want to burden others, or you just feel that no one really understands what you are going through. But there are people who understand:

  • other people living with cancer
  • people who have already finished treatment
  • trained professionals who specialize in helping people face disease

There are many places and ways to find support. Have the courage to reach out for help. Don't try to "go it alone." Find the kind of support that's most comfortable for you. There are different types of groups and one-on-one support options to choose from.

Cancer
A general term for more than 100 different diseases that involve the uncontrolled increase of abnormal new cells. These cells form tumors that can destroy surrounding tissue and spread throughout the body.
