How do you deal with nausea and vomiting?

If you can find ways to control nausea, you may be able to prevent vomiting also.

  • Eat small meals of easily digested foods. Try poached eggs, cooked fruits or vegetables, plain chicken without skin.
  • Eat dry foods such as toast or crackers and avoid spicy, sweet, or greasy foods.
  • Drink plenty of clear, cool beverages, such as water or apple juice. Sip them frequently through a straw.
  • Try to stay away from sights or smells that may nauseate you.
  • Rest, sitting up, for about an hour after a meal.
  • Ask your doctor or nurse about medications that can help reduce nausea.
